When did you last heard of Alcatel in the mobile arena? Personally, during the Nokia 5110 days. I haven’t heard much of the mobile company in decades but I know they were just on the sidelines offering low to mid range phones. After a hiatus of a couple of years, the French-Chinese venture is off to fresh start with Android powered lineup called Alcatel OneTouch and some of us here in Tagbilaran City, Bohol get to sit down with the company’s Product Marketing Executive, Ms. Ellisha Alino during the press meet up.
The meet up was at Pizza Hut, BQ Mall with several representatives from the media. A PR kit was provided and we get to see the featured phones live. I would like to really get my hands dirty and geek out by testing WIFI speed browsing, apps and of course call quality but it was not convenient at the moment.
Already? Yes, I don’t want to leave you guys hanging and jump into what I think about the new line of Alcatel Android-powered phones. So before anything else, I think the OneTouch series will give consumers a budget friendly option to Android apart from Samsung. I also think that all of the 5 featured phones handed to us have a really robust design. Some even were even lighter than expected and yes they are much cheaper compared to their Samsung counterparts. Also, I don’t think they look “cheap” at all. Android is an open software and almost anyone has access to the software even ones with substandard qualities. Alcatel managed to slip in a good and robust design with a matching pocket-friendly price combo.
I would really recommend looking into Alcatel if you are looking for an Android phone. They have a good range from low, mid and high end and one that will suit your budget needs.
So here are the phones featured during the meet up. By the way, not all of these phones are Android-powered. The Onetouch 810D Glam has a compact design, chic, social with a sparkle of LED notification and yes, QWERTY. I may have to update this post with their designated prices since I can’t open the CD drive that came with the press kit. I pulled these videos from the Alcatel Philippines YouTube channel except for the Blaze Glory 985N.
Glory X 918N

Mobile Expo 2012
The Mobile Expo 2012 is a fun-filled event full of games, gadgets and contest. I even get to snag some gift certificates from Pizza Hut and Gelateria.
Of course, the Atrium was filled with mobile phones and you have loads of options to choose from booth to booth.
All these happened after the press meet up.
Great company during the meetup. I get to meet representatives from The Bohol Chronicle, Local FM Radio Stations and from Auza.net. On a side note, the blogosphere here in Bohol is rather quiet. I do wish more bloggers show up with events like these.
Anyway, don’t let me do all the talking. Have you been to the Mobile Expo 2012? Have you tried the OneTouch series from Alcatel? Sound off in the comments below.
